Proximus.be is the email service tied to Proximus, Belgium’s main telecom operator (which absorbed the legacy Skynet.be brand). To connect a Proximus mailbox to Outlook, Thunderbird, Apple Mail, or a mobile client, use the server settings below along with your Proximus MyProximus account credentials.

MIGRATION NOTICE SKYNET.BE ADDRESSES

Skynet.be email accounts still work on Proximus infrastructure. If you have a legacy @skynet.be address, use the settings on this page with your MyProximus login. Free (non-customer) mailboxes have been phased out for new signups; only paying Proximus customers can create new email addresses. Existing accounts are unaffected. For related bounce codes when authentication fails, see the SMTP 550 5.7.1 guide.

Quick Reference: Proximus.be Server Settings

Use the values below verbatim. Every protocol requires encryption; plain-text ports 25, 110, and 143 are blocked or discouraged.

ProtocolServerPortEncryptionAuthentication
SMTP (outgoing, most common)smtp.proximus.be465 (SSL) or 587 (STARTTLS)RequiredFull email + MyProximus password
IMAP (incoming, recommended)imap.proximus.be993SSL/TLSFull email + MyProximus password
POP3 (incoming, single device)pop.proximus.be995SSL/TLSFull email + MyProximus password

Proximus.be SMTP Settings (Sending Mail)

SMTP is the outbound protocol for mail clients, WordPress SMTP plugins, and any app sending through your Proximus mailbox. The server is smtp.proximus.be on port 465 with SSL or 587 with STARTTLS. Authentication is required; use your full user@proximus.be (or legacy @skynet.be) address as username and your MyProximus password.

Two operational notes. The SMTP server is only reachable if the Proximus service tied to the mailbox is still active. Since Proximus tightened its policy in 2023, new mailboxes are only created for paying Proximus internet customers; existing free @skynet.be addresses still work but cannot be re-created. If SMTP returns 535 5.7.8 even with correct credentials, the underlying subscription may have lapsed. Related bounce reference: SMTP 550 5.7.1 guide.

IMAP synchronizes folder state across every device. The server is imap.proximus.be on port 993 with SSL/TLS. Use your full email as username and your MyProximus password. Standard IMAP folder mappings apply, so Sent, Drafts, and Trash appear where clients expect them; the labels are French, Dutch, or English depending on your account language setting inside MyProximus.

Proximus.be POP3 Settings (Single-Device Access)

POP3 downloads mail to one device without server-side sync afterwards. The server is pop.proximus.be on port 995 with SSL/TLS. Proximus keeps a server copy after POP3 download by default; enable “delete from server on download” only when you specifically want messages purged. For any multi-device setup, IMAP is a better fit.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I recover a forgotten Proximus password?

Reset your MyProximus password at proximus.be through the “Wachtwoord vergeten? / Mot de passe oublié?” link. Proximus sends a reset code to your registered mobile number. Once reset, update it in every mail client; the old password stops working immediately for SMTP and IMAP.

Can I use Proximus mail on several devices at once?

Yes, use IMAP (port 993, SSL/TLS) on every device. Read status, folder moves, and drafts stay in sync across your phone, tablet, and desktop. Avoid mixing POP3 on one device with IMAP on another; POP3 clients set to delete on download will remove messages before your other devices sync them.

What if outbound Proximus mail lands in recipients’ spam?

Proximus outbound reputation is generally strong, but individual mailboxes can be flagged if they send too many messages too quickly. Ask the recipient to mark one message as “Not spam” and add your address to their contacts. If the problem persists across several recipients, verify the sender name and check that MyProximus has not restricted outbound sending on the account.

What is the attachment size limit?

Proximus caps attachments at 20 MB per outgoing message, and rejects incoming messages larger than 25 MB. For anything bigger, use a file-sharing link (Proximus offers a “Cloud” service, or use any third-party). Some recipients’ servers may impose their own limits on incoming size, so a message that leaves Proximus successfully can still bounce on the far end.

How do I enable two-factor authentication?

Sign in to MyProximus, open the security section, and enable two-step verification. Once 2FA is on, mail clients that use standard IMAP/POP/SMTP authentication may need to re-authenticate the first time they connect; that is expected. Keep a backup recovery code somewhere safe: losing your second factor without one requires a support call to restore access.

About This Guide

The Proximus.be email settings on this page were last verified on July 23, 2026 against the provider’s official help documentation, publicly available postmaster resources, and independent user setup reports. Email server configurations rarely change once established, most providers issue major updates only every one to two years, typically tied to phasing out unencrypted protocols or migrating to new mail infrastructure. SMTPedia re-verifies these settings quarterly and after any announced changes from Proximus. If you find a discrepancy between what is documented here and what Proximus currently requires, please report it so we can update the reference.
