Last verified Aug 27, 2026

Constant Contact is an Email marketing platform founded in 1995, headquartered in the United States. Starting at $12/mo, it targets small businesses and nonprofits that want prebuilt campaigns rather than a flow canvas. Our verdict: Plain-English email for nonprofits, associations and events. Watch for: No free plan, and cost is the largest complaint among its own satisfied customers. Rated 6.1/10 overall across ease of use, deliverability, and pricing value.

What is Constant Contact?

Constant Contact is older than the category it sits in. Randy Parker founded it in Massachusetts in 1995 as Roving Software, six years before Mailchimp and seventeen before Klaviyo, and the name only changed in 2004. It went public on NASDAQ in 2007, was taken private by Endurance International in November 2015 for around $1.1 billion, then carved back out in February 2021 when Clearlake Capital and Siris Capital put in roughly $400 million to run it as a standalone business again.

Three decades of acquisitions, not just email, explain the product’s shape. Event registration and ticketing arrived by buying e2M Systems in 2008 and still ship inside the same account as the campaigns, alongside surveys, social post scheduling, social ads, SMS, appointments and business listings management. The automation is deliberately shallow: prebuilt welcome, birthday, abandoned cart and resend-to-non-openers paths rather than a branching flow canvas. All 300+ native integrations are available on every plan, and pricing is tiered on contact count rather than metered per email.

Constant Contact now runs three platforms rather than one. It bought SharpSpring in 2021 for the automation tier above the core product, and Moosend from Sitecore in June 2025 for EMEA reach. There is no SMTP relay: everything leaves through the campaign builder or the API.
