Telenet is Belgium’s largest cable operator, providing broadband, TV, mobile, and consumer email service primarily in Flanders and parts of Brussels. Its @telenet.be email is bundled with residential subscriptions, and the @pandora.be legacy brand runs on the same infrastructure. To connect Telenet to Outlook, Thunderbird, Apple Mail, or a mobile client, use the settings below with your Telenet email password.
Telenet’s recommended SMTP is port 587 with STARTTLS, not the more common 465 SSL, and SSL/TLS is mandatory across all protocols since March 2022. Since that date, POP3 without SSL is rejected entirely. Attempting plaintext POP3 (port 110) or plaintext IMAP (port 143) will fail. Additionally, @pandora.be addresses (legacy Telenet brand from the Chello era) share the exact same server infrastructure as @telenet.be, only the domain suffix in the username differs. Reference: SMTP 550 5.7.1 guide.
Quick Reference: Telenet.be Server Settings
Use these values verbatim. Encryption is required across all three protocols since March 2022, plaintext ports no longer accept connections.
| Protocol | Server | Port | Encryption | Authentication |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SMTP (outgoing, most common) | smtp.telenet.be | 587 (STARTTLS) | Required | Full email + password |
| IMAP (incoming, recommended) | imap.telenet.be | 993 | SSL/TLS | Full email + password |
| POP3 (incoming, single device) | pop3.telenet.be | 995 | SSL/TLS | Full email + password |
Telenet.be SMTP Settings (Sending Mail)
SMTP handles outbound mail. Server smtp.telenet.be on port 587 with STARTTLS. Note that Telenet’s own guidance points to 587 STARTTLS as the primary configuration, unlike many providers that default to 465 SSL. Authentication is mandatory and uses the full email address as username (including the exact suffix, whether @telenet.be or @pandora.be) plus your Telenet email password.
Port 25 outbound is blocked on Belgian consumer ISPs in line with the RIPE anti-spam operator practice. Consumer SMTP has undocumented rate limits typical of a large European cable operator; expect throttling around 200 recipients per day. Heavier transactional sending needs a dedicated SMTP relay.
Telenet.be IMAP Settings (Recommended for Reading)
IMAP syncs folder state across every device. Server imap.telenet.be on port 993 SSL/TLS. Telenet’s own help pages recommend IMAP over POP for any modern usage. Folder names appear in Dutch by default (Verzonden, Concepten, Prullenbak) but IMAP folder attributes let Outlook, Apple Mail, and Thunderbird map them to Sent, Drafts, and Trash correctly.
Telenet.be POP3 Settings (Single-Device Access)
POP3 downloads mail to one device with no server-side sync. Use pop3.telenet.be on port 995 SSL/TLS. Since March 2022 Telenet requires SSL on POP3; the plaintext port 110 no longer accepts connections. Only pick POP3 if you specifically need offline archival on one device, otherwise IMAP is the correct default for anyone using more than one device.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my POP3 connection stopped working after 2022?
Because Telenet enforced SSL/TLS on POP3 starting March 2022, and rejected plaintext connections on port 110. If you had an older configuration using plaintext POP3, it stopped working overnight. Update your client to use pop3.telenet.be on port 995 with SSL/TLS encryption enabled. The username and password remain the same. If your client also had plaintext IMAP configured (port 143), switch that to port 993 SSL/TLS at the same time, as Telenet also enforces encryption on IMAP now.
Why does Telenet recommend port 587 over the more common 465 for SMTP?
Port 587 with STARTTLS is defined by RFC 6409 as the official standard for authenticated message submission from mail clients. Port 465 with implicit SSL/TLS was deprecated in the early 2000s, then re-standardized in 2018 as an alternative. Telenet follows the IETF standards guidance and prioritizes 587 STARTTLS in its documentation. Both provide equivalent transport encryption in practice, but 587 is more widely accepted by corporate firewalls and antivirus software. If you have an existing configuration on port 465 SSL, it likely still works, but new setups should use 587 STARTTLS.
I have a @pandora.be address, does it use the same settings?
Yes. Pandora was Telenet’s legacy consumer brand from the Chello Internet era, and @pandora.be addresses run on identical infrastructure. Use the same imap.telenet.be, pop3.telenet.be, and smtp.telenet.be servers with your full email address as username, including the @pandora.be suffix exactly as issued. Only the domain in the username differs, the physical servers and ports are identical.
How do I reset my Telenet email password?
Sign in to Mijn Telenet at mijn.telenet.be using your customer credentials. Open the email management section and use the password reset flow. Recovery goes through the mobile number or contact email registered on your Telenet subscription. If you have lost access entirely, contact Telenet customer service directly via the phone number on your invoice.
How secure is Telenet.be email in transit?
Telenet enforces SSL/TLS on all mail protocols since March 2022, so client-to-server transport is fully encrypted (IMAP 993, POP3 995 SSL; SMTP 587 STARTTLS). Server-to-server transport follows standard SMTP with STARTTLS. Native 2FA on IMAP or SMTP is not offered on the consumer tier, though the Mijn Telenet portal supports 2FA for account management. For end-to-end message encryption use S/MIME or PGP client-side. Related: SMTP connection guide.

About This Guide
The Telenet.be email settings on this page were last verified on August 12, 2026 against Telenet’s official help documentation, independent user setup reports, and email client auto-detection databases. Email server configurations rarely change once established, most providers issue major updates only every one to two years, typically tied to phasing out unencrypted protocols or migrating to new mail infrastructure. SMTPedia re-verifies these settings quarterly and after any announced changes from Telenet. If you find a discrepancy between what is documented here and what Telenet currently requires, please report it so we can update the reference.
