What is Spark?
Spark was developed by Readdle, an Irish productivity software company, and launched on macOS in 2016 before expanding to iOS, Android, and Windows. It is widely used for its Smart Inbox, which automatically separates personal messages, newsletters, and notifications presenting the most important messages first without requiring manual rules.
The interface is generally considered one of the faster and more fluid desktop email clients. Swipe gestures, quick reply, and snooze are built into the message list. Send later and follow-up reminders help manage outgoing email without an external task manager.
Spark for Teams (paid) adds a shared team inbox, internal comments on emails, collaborative drafts, and permission controls. This positions it as an alternative to front-of-inbox tools for small teams. The individual free version has no time limit and covers all core email features.
Note: Spark syncs some account metadata (labels, read status) through Readdle’s servers to enable cross-device sync. Users with strict data locality requirements should review Readdle’s privacy policy before connecting business accounts.
