What is Canary Mail?

Canary Mail connects to Gmail, Outlook, iCloud, Exchange, Yahoo, and IMAP providers. Its main distinguishing feature is automated PGP encryption: instead of requiring users to manage key pairs manually, Canary handles key generation and distribution behind the scenes. Recipients who also use Canary receive encrypted messages seamlessly; others receive a fallback.

The AI Copilot (Pro) assists with drafting replies, summarizing long threads, and adjusting tone. Email categorization sorts incoming messages into Personal, Notifications, and Newsletters automatically. The interface is clean and modern, with cross-device sync keeping read status and folders consistent across desktop and mobile.

Unlike some AI-enhanced clients, Canary does not route email content through its own servers for AI processing by default the AI features operate through an API connection that users configure with their own key or through the Pro subscription.
