Resend is a Transactional email service founded in 2023, headquartered in the United States. Pricing: Free · paid from $20/mo. It targets developers who template in React Email and want the library's own authors running the send. Our verdict: A hosted MCP server with OAuth, and 30-day logs on the free plan. Watch for: Ten reviews in total, and no API versioning at all. Rated 7.4/10 overall across ease of use, deliverability, and pricing value.
What is Resend?
Resend was built by two people who had just left WorkOS, Zeno Rocha and Bu Kinoshita, and it grew out of an open-source project rather than the other way round: React Email, the MIT-licensed templating library they still maintain, was published months before the company was incorporated in January 2023. Andreessen Horowitz, which led the $18M Series A in December 2024, says it found Resend through that library.
Two details give the plumbing away. Every account signs in to smtp.resend.com with the literal username resend, and domain verification asks for a return-path MX record on feedback-smtp.{region}.amazonses.com, which puts Amazon SES in the delivery path.
